Grazia Deledda, born in 1871 in Nuoro, Italy, was a self-taught writer from a middle-class Sardinian family. She wrote over sixty novels, blending Sardinian traditions with themes of beauty, morality, and social change. In 1926, she became the first Italian woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
